Following the request of Serbia the Russian Government made a decision in June to continue the demining project in this country. At least 23 million square meters are still contaminated with unexploded ordnances. At present Emergency Ministry bomb disposal technicians from the Russian national corps of emergency humanitarian response are ready to be dispatched to the destination where they will join the Russia-Serbia team.

Between 2008 and 2015, the Russian Emergency Ministry implemented the program on assisting Serbia with humanitarian demining of its territory. Over those years more than 200 specialists of the Emergency Ministry – Noginsk Rescue Center and the Leader Center for high-risk rescue operations were trained in accordance with international demining standards. During those 8 years, by joint efforts over 4.6 million square meters were cleared of almost 13,0000 mines and cluster bombs and the land was returned to the economy of the country.
